We are pleased to offer our
readers the White Rose
International poster. Its
distinctive white rose rising out
of the darkness to confront
the jagged strands of barbed
wire testifies to the Christian
faith and hope of those
students of Die Weisse Rose
whose courageous stand
against spiritual darkness and
tyranny still speaks to our
day. |
Note: Poster also
includes the White Rose International web site address printed at the bottom
(http://www.ns.net/~wri)
Approximate size: 24.75 in X 17 in. $2.00 USD,

We are often contacted by students and
interested individuals wanting to learn more about the White Rose movement in particular
and Christian resistance in general. Let us recommend the following books and resources.
Many of them can be purchased here, online,
through our arrangement with Amazon Books. Others are difficult to find and even out of
print. We have included them for completeness. Many of these harder-to-find books should
be available at college libraries and better used-book stores.
| The White Rose : Munich 1942-1943
by Inge Scholl |
|
| Inge Scholl, the surving sister of Hans and Sophie Scholl, wrote this
gripping account of the White Rose. She draws on those childhood experiences and the
values of her parents that shaped her brother's and sister's journey from being "good
Germans" to being resistors against the Reich. This 1983 second edition
(the original was published in 1947) suffers only from the introduction by Dorothy Solle
who grandly redefines the deeply religious members of the White Rose as proto-Marxists. |

| Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed : The story of the
village of Le Chambon and how goodness happened there. by Phillip Hallie |
|
| The story of how the people of Le Chambon, under the leadership of
their Protestant pastor, Rev. Andre Trocme, made their village a city of refuge for Jewish
refugees hiding from the Nazis and the Vichy government. Trocme's story is fascinating
because so many people were involved in this conspiracy of goodness -- his was a community
of resistance rooted in a deep religious commitment to love one's neighbor as Christ
commanded and the Protestant community's historic memory of their own persecution as a
religious minority. |
